The wife of the former director of the Police Administration, Veselin Veljović, Tamara Veljović, has been suspended again for serious breach of official duty, Vijesti has learned.
The decision on the suspension was made by the Minister of Interior, Danilo Šaranović, after the Government Appeals Commission recently returned the case for reconsideration.
Tamara Veljović was repeatedly assigned to various positions in the security sector, and in early 2025 she was suspended due to disciplinary proceedings.
She got her job on December 14, 2010, and the decision on her employment was signed by her husband, Police Director Veselin Veljović.
After a year, she was assigned to the National Central Bureau of Interpol as an independent police commissioner-analyst for a period of six months. Her first work assignment was terminated on February 28, 2012, when the employment relationship was terminated by mutual consent.
Re-employment followed on December 5, 2013, when Veljović was hired for an indefinite period as a junior police inspector in the Special Anti-Terrorist Unit (SAJ), following a public competition and a decision signed by the then director, Slavko Stojanović.
The media recently reported that she had a series of transfers in the service after that. From 2015 to 2019, she was a junior police inspector in the Special Police Unit, and then became a senior police advisor in the Department for International Police Cooperation and Public Relations, where she "remained" until October 11, 2024. She then became a senior police inspector in the Department for Support to Police Organizational Units, Work Improvement and Analytics. Decisions on her assignments throughout her career were signed by the then directors Veselin Veljović, Slavko Stojanović and Zoran Brđanin.
The IN4S portal recently, citing responses from the Ministry of Internal Affairs, announced that Tamara Veljović had not come to work for more than a decade, and that she had been regularly receiving her monthly salary.
They state that the only confirmed period of her presence at work was from October 28, 2024, to February 2025, when she was first suspended.
On February 17, 2025, the Minister of Internal Affairs, Danilo Šaranović, issued a decision to suspend Tamara Veljović due to the initiation of disciplinary proceedings for a serious breach of official duty.
Her husband, Veselin Veljović, was arrested in late July 2023 in an operation by the Special Police Department, on the orders of the Special State Prosecutor's Office, on suspicion of being part of a criminal organization allegedly led by Aleksandar Mrkić. Veljović is charged with creating a criminal organization and abuse of office. He is being tried before the Higher Court in Podgorica, which was recently joined with the case against the former head of the Bar Criminal Police, Ilija Vasović.
