The Council of the Supreme Court of Montenegro has extended the detention of Ali Zohaib, a Pakistani citizen, for another two months.
"The Council of the Supreme Court of Montenegro, deciding on the proposal of the Basic State Prosecutor's Office of Montenegro dated April 29, 2025, to extend the detention of the defendant AZ, a citizen of Pakistan, has issued a Decision to extend the defendant's detention for another two months, i.e. until July 09, 2025," the Supreme Court said in a statement.
The institution added that Zohaib's detention was extended due to reasonable suspicion that he committed the crime of kidnapping, by deceiving and then holding five Indian citizens by force and threat in Podgorica in December last year, in agreement with another person, with the intention of extorting money from them.
"The defendant's detention was extended due to the risk of flight. Let us recall that the defendant AZ's detention was ordered by the Decision of the investigating judge of the Basic Court in Podgorica on February 04, 2024, and extended by the Decision of the council of that court on March 31, 2025, so that according to the Decision of the Supreme Court of Montenegro, the detention may last until July 02, 2025," the Supreme Court said.
