The Police Directorate implemented the "Stranac" operation throughout the territory of Montenegro, during which more than 11.000 foreign citizens were checked.
They said that the action was carried out with the aim of increasing control over the movement, residence and work of foreigners, "in accordance with the state's strategic commitment to preserve public order and peace, prevent abuses in the area of residence and work of foreign citizens, and increase the general level of security."
The one-day operation involved 254 police officers and 13 inspection officers, both at the local and national levels. 369 different types of facilities and 11.039 foreign nationals were inspected, and 294 measures were taken due to irregularities.
27 decisions on voluntary return were issued, 60 decisions on cancellation of residence for up to 90 days, 158 misdemeanor warrants were issued to foreign citizens, and six misdemeanor and one criminal report were filed against foreign citizens.
"Also, 10 misdemeanor warrants were issued to natural and legal persons - accommodation holders (citizens of Montenegro), six misdemeanor warrants were issued under the Law on Road Traffic Safety, and three decisions on more lenient measures were issued," the Police Directorate announced.
One foreign national was placed in a reception center for foreigners, while one was arrested because he was wanted at the local level. Also, eight initiatives were submitted to the Ministry of Internal Affairs for the termination of temporary residence.
During the one-day operation, 13 people were prevented from crossing the state border.
"Officers of the Border Police Sector, in cooperation with other organizational units of the Police Directorate, will continue to implement such and similar actions with the same determination and efficiency, in order to preserve legality, protect the interests of Montenegrin citizens and suppress all forms of illegal activities related to the residence and work of foreign citizens," the statement reads.
