Police in Bijelo Polje and Mojkovac have filed two criminal charges against two people accused of forest theft.
A criminal complaint has been filed against EK (41) from Bijelo Polje, who is suspected of committing the crime he is accused of in April, when he illegally cut down 124 beech, hornbeam and oak trees with a total gross wood mass of 7,66 cubic meters in a state forest, in the part belonging to the Bistrica management unit.
"Thus, he caused damage to the Forest Management and Hunting Grounds Administration, Bijelo Polje Branch, in the amount of 385 euros," the Police Directorate announced.
Criminal charges were also filed against ZK (60) from Mojkovac, who is accused of cutting down wood assortments - maple, in the Štitarica management unit, in the Mojkovac Regional Unit, with a gross wood mass of nine cubic meters and thus causing damage in the amount of 642 euros.
"Officers of the Regional Security Center 'North' will continue to carry out intensive activities within their jurisdiction in the fight against environmental crime as one of the national priorities, as well as in preventing illegal logging, detecting and prosecuting perpetrators of criminal offenses in this area, all with the aim of preserving the natural resources of Montenegro," the statement reads.
