60 drivers were arrested in Montenegro on Wednesday and Thursday for driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs and other serious violations under the Road Traffic Safety Act, the Police Directorate announced.
The police said that during the holidays, 35 traffic accidents were recorded on Montenegrin roads, in which three people were seriously injured and 17 were slightly injured.
They stated that during the same period, traffic police officers filed 122 misdemeanor reports, issued 990 misdemeanor warrants, temporarily confiscated four pairs of license plates, and removed the same number of vehicles from traffic.
"60 drivers were arrested, 30 of whom were arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol in their bodies with a concentration of more than one per mille, or for refusing to take a breathalyzer test," the statement said.
It is reported that 22 drivers were arrested for driving under the influence of drugs or other psychoactive substances, or refusing to submit to testing.
According to the police, eight drivers were arrested for committing other serious violations under the Road Traffic Safety Act.
They stated that, of the total number of arrests, nine drivers were arrested in Podgorica, seven each in Bar and Ulcinj, and six each in Cetinje and Nikšić.
"The Police Department appeals to all road users to respect traffic regulations and thus contribute to both their own safety and the safety of other road users," the statement said.
