Officers at the Spuž Remand Prison found and seized a package containing two mobile phones, which was left in the immediate vicinity of the prison walls next to the walking area, Vijesti learned from several sources in the security sector.

According to initial indications, it is suspected that the package was dropped by an unmanned aerial vehicle (drone).

"The location where the package was found clearly indicates that this was an attempt to illegally bring mobile devices inside the prison complex. Although it is still being determined who the phones were intended for, security services believe that the goal was for them to end up in the hands of detainees. How they were supposed to end up inside the fence is also being investigated," said Vijesti's interlocutor from the Directorate for the Execution of Criminal Sanctions.

The same interviewee said that the package was not left when it was time for a walk, so for that reason there is a wide list of suspects.

According to police data, the found package is the subject of further investigation.

The use of drones to deliver contraband items is becoming an increasingly common practice in prison systems around the world, and Montenegro is no exception.

Vijesti previously reported that prison guards had repeatedly recorded drones flying over the UIKS walls and pavilions housing detained and convicted persons, which is why the sky above Spuži is under their constant surveillance.

In mid-March, they prevented two mobile phones from being brought into the Remand Prison, which someone had tried to smuggle in using a drone.

This was done on March 12th, around 18 p.m.

"Tonight, around 18 p.m., an attempt was made to drop two mobile phones via drone on the walking track of the Podgorica Remand Prison, which was noticed and prevented by UIKS officers," the Supša prison told Vijesti that night, emphasizing that they had reported the incident to the Police Directorate.

And in March last year, a drone was shot down over the Spuž Prison. Prison guards noticed it during the night and shot it down, later finding three phones attached to it.

Then, during the search, two more mobile phones were found in the outer wall of the prison room.

The drone was shot down that night over the compound of the Long Sentence Prison.

The same thing happened in January 2023, when a drone carrying two mobile phones and two USB cables was shot down, and also in April 2022, when a drone carrying four mobile phones landed on the roof of the Remand Prison.
