The police seized 51 kilograms of cut tobacco from an Albanian citizen with permanent residence in Montenegro, SS (26), and criminal charges were filed against her for illicit trafficking.
"Officers of the Regional Border Police Center, Border Police Station I Podgorica, stopped a Peugeot 307 passenger motor vehicle with Berane license plates on the Zeta - Podgorica main road, in the town of Cijevna, driven by SS (51), a citizen of the Republic of Albania with permanent residence in Montenegro.
"On that occasion, the police found 26 kilograms of cut tobacco packed in half-kilogram packages in the trunk of the vehicle," the Police Directorate (UP) said in a statement.
The police said that, taking measures and actions within their jurisdiction, and in cooperation with the acting prosecutor at the Basic State Prosecutor's Office in Podgorica, their officers also searched the apartment and other premises used by SS in the village of Mahala in Zeta.
"After collecting information from this person, the acting prosecutor stated that the elements of the criminal offense of illicit trafficking were being acquired in the actions of the SS.
Criminal charges will be filed against SS in regular proceedings.
"Police officers will continue in the coming period with activities to detect and suppress criminal acts in the field of illicit trade with the aim of preserving public safety and respecting the law," the UP statement concludes.
