Democrats: It is unworthy for a party whose president is Duško Marković to hold moral tirades

Democratic Montenegro, in response to today's statement by the Party of European Progress, said that it is "undignified and immoral" for "moral tirades" to be held by a party whose president is Duško Marković, "a symbol of the darkest years of recent Montenegrin history."

"We do not forget who you are and what you did. And what you have forgotten is not our problem, but a matter for the prosecution. It is unworthy and immoral for moral tirades to be held by a party whose president is Duško Marković, a symbol of the darkest years of recent Montenegrin history, a man who for years was the head of the ANB, the Deputy Prime Minister for Security, the Prime Minister, and who, instead of protecting the state, protected those who robbed, silenced and sold it. It is immoral to talk about the rule of law while under your leadership, drug clans entered institutions in a big way, murders, as a rule unsolved, were recording record numbers, and Montenegro served as a transport corridor for international smuggling. It is unworthy to talk about the fight against organized crime, while under your mandate, police and ANB officers entered the 'Sky ECC' as if on shift, clan bosses issued orders from prison, and your services provided them with escort, code and protection," say the Democrats.

It is unworthy, they say, to call on others to return weapons, when "there are arsenals in the family homes and apartments of your high-ranking officials, not figuratively, but literally."

"You know this well, because you protected them with those weapons, while you insulted the people in the media, threatened the opposition, and framed scandals against journalists, the civil sector, and religious dignitaries. And now, when you have fulfilled all the conditions for history to remember you not by the laws you respected, but by the laws of silence you established, you are talking about 'principles of responsibility'? Gentlemen, we are not commenting on you because you are dangerous, but because you are a clear reminder of everything that Montenegro must never be again. And don't let it bother you that we are now calling you by the name you have earned. That is not labeling, that is dressing up as the truth. Because you had a chance. And you wasted it. For bribery. For smuggling. For violence. For corruption. And that is what the competent state authorities say. Numerous trials, indictments, verdicts. The state was brought to its knees. You will never watch that movie again," the reaction reads.
