The management of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MUP) and the Police Directorate will not compromise with crime, nor with officials who are not immune to connections with organized crime groups (OCG), said the relevant Minister Danilo Šaranović.

According to him, vetting is necessary, and the only question is at what pace it must be implemented.

"If we have made a decision that the fight against crime is an absolute state priority, that means there is no compromise with integrity in the police. And this management of the Ministry of the Interior and the Police will not make it. Neither with crime, nor with officials who are not immune to crime and connections to the OKG," said Šaranović.

As he said, ensuring absolute integrity in the police service is not a goal, but a prerequisite for continuing the determined fight against organized crime.

Šaranović pointed out that "all hybrid attacks, current attempts to stop the cleansing of the police from the influence that ensured the supremacy of crime over the state, are confirmation that we must only go this way."

"Everyone who cares about a safe state should support us in creating the best conditions for police work, protecting it from criminal influence, and "thanking for the cooperation" of all officers who chose servitude to organized crime instead of the Constitution, law, and integrity," said Šaranović.

He said that there will be consequences for police officers who act contrary to this.

"The time when individuals among us, instead of the state, served crime, is over. The time has come when the state is the strongest support for honest and police officers with integrity, who are the overwhelming majority in the police force," added Šaranović.
