Over the past weekend, 48 drivers were arrested across the country, and 65 traffic accidents were recorded, in which four people died, 14 people suffered serious injuries, and 12 people suffered minor injuries.
As announced by the Police Directorate (UP), the most people were arrested in Podgorica – 14, followed by five in Bijelo Polje and Tivat each, and four in Danilovgrad.
"Traffic police officers issued 1.043 misdemeanor warrants to road users, filed 122 misdemeanor reports and temporarily confiscated 15 pairs of license plates. Of the total number of persons deprived of their liberty, 26 drivers were deprived of their liberty for driving under the influence of alcohol, 19 drivers for driving under the influence of narcotics and three drivers for committing other serious violations from the scope of the Law on Road Traffic Safety. Of this number, the most persons were deprived of their liberty in Podgorica - 14, then in Bijelo Polje and Tivat five each and in Danilovgrad four," the statement said.
The Ministry of Transport reminds that from June 8 to September 15, a new Order on the temporary ban on the traffic of freight motor vehicles, buses and special passenger vehicles for housing (so-called campers) on certain sections of roads in Montenegro is in force, and they appeal to drivers who drive these categories of vehicles to familiarize themselves with the text of the Order and respect the restrictions contained therein.
"We appeal to citizens and tourists coming to Montenegro to respect traffic regulations and pay attention to the condition of the roads, the technical condition of vehicles, avoid traveling in the late evening hours, take more frequent breaks during the trip and do not allow fatigue and drowsiness to endanger their safety and that of other road users," the UP statement reads.
