The Court of Appeals rejected as unfounded the appeal filed by defense attorney Ivan Delić against the decision of the Higher Court in Podgorica ordering detention on May 29th.
The Court of Appeals made this decision at yesterday's council session.
They remind that Delić was remanded in custody due to reasonable suspicion that he committed a criminal offense - the creation of a criminal organization and two criminal offenses - unauthorized production, possession and distribution of narcotic drugs.
"The Higher Court in Podgorica ordered the detention of this defendant on the grounds for detention under Article 175, paragraph 1, items 1 and 4 of the Criminal Procedure Code, considering that there are circumstances indicating a risk of escape (item 1) and that there are serious circumstances of the offense that give it a particularly serious character, and are reflected in the manner of commission of the criminal offense in question and its consequences (item 4). It was determined that the detention is to be counted from 29.05.2025, when the defendant was deprived of liberty, and is to last until a further decision of the court," the statement reads.
Budva resident Ivan Delić (55) and Podgorica resident Aleksandar Keković (34) were extradited to Montenegro from the United Arab Emirates at the end of May, where they were arrested in mid-May.
Montenegrin police have been searching for Delić since July last year on charges that he was part of the criminal group of Vaso Ulic and Radoje Zvicer, which was dismantled in the major international operation "General".
Ulić and Zvicer are cited as the leaders of a criminal organization accused of smuggling around 2,5 tons of cocaine, whose members include prisoners with long prison terms, such as Damir Mandić, but also members of the "Amerika" clan, active since the XNUMXs...
In addition to Delić, Zvicer, Leon Drešaj from Tuzi and Vuk Vulević from Berane evaded arrest on July 17, 2024.
