Due to the failure of defendant Vojin Perunović to appear, the trial of former President of the Supreme Court of Montenegro Vesna Medenica, her son Miloš and other defendants was postponed today.
The continuation is scheduled for tomorrow at the Higher Court in Podgorica.
Medical expert Dr. Nemanja Radojević appeared in court today, as the accused Vojin Perunović submitted medical documentation stating that he has a serious lung disease.
Dr. Radojević made his statement based on the submitted documentation and expressed doubt in its accuracy and doubt in the statement of the private medical institution from Smederevo that Perunović had pneumonia.
The expert witness finds it disputable that the documentation submitted to the court did not mention the laboratory results, the blood test results, and that it was not stated at all that these results had been performed. The expert witness added that a blood test is mandatory when it comes to pneumonia, a lung disease, because it is based on it that the intensity of the disease is determined. The expert witness said that it is disputable that the therapy was listed without specifying the antibiotics that the accused should receive.
The president of the special chamber, Judge Vesna Kovačević, said that all the defendants, as well as Perunović, regularly respond to the court's summons and that the court appreciates this.
The court today ordered the defendant Perunović to appear at the scheduled trial tomorrow. If he does not appear, the judge said she will ask the prosecutor for a statement on the detention order.
Dr. Radojević gave a statement and answered questions regarding Vesna Medenica's health condition. He stated that the medical documentation stated that she had a serious disease of the spine and joints, which caused her to suffer from pain and required therapy.
The Special State Prosecutor's Office has filed an indictment against the defendants Miloš and Vesna Medenica, Darko Lalović, Vasilije Petrović, Bojan and Marko Popović, Marko Vučinić, Milorad Medenica, Luka Bakoč, Petar Milutinović, Ivana Kovačević, Radomir Raičević, Marjan Bevenja, Stevo Karanikić and Goran Jovanović and the company "Kopad Company", for the criminal offenses of creating a criminal organization, smuggling, giving and receiving undue influence and inducing unlawful influence, abuse of official position, drug smuggling, illegal possession of weapons, causing serious bodily harm and preventing the production of evidence.
Miloš Medenica is accused of having created a criminal organization in 2019, whose members included his mother Vesna and other defendants, with the aim of smuggling cigarettes and illegally influencing the judiciary, in order to gain illegal profit and power.
