In Montenegro, 66 drivers were arrested over the weekend for driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, as well as for committing other serious violations under the Law on Road Traffic Safety, the Police Directorate announced.
The police said that from Friday to Sunday, 62 traffic accidents were recorded on Montenegrin roads, in which one person died, while 12 people were seriously injured and 22 were slightly injured.
The statement states that traffic police officers issued 1.559 misdemeanor warrants to road users, filed 155 misdemeanor reports and temporarily confiscated 17 pairs of license plates.
It is emphasized that 66 drivers were arrested across the country over the weekend.
"Of the total number of arrests, 31 drivers were arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol, 13 for driving under the influence of narcotics and 22 for committing other serious violations under the Road Traffic Safety Act," the statement said.
It is stated that the most drivers were arrested in Podgorica - 24, followed by five in Danilovgrad, and four each in Kolašin and Pljevlja.
The police reminded that a new Order on the temporary ban on the traffic of heavy goods vehicles, buses and campers on certain sections of roads in Montenegro is in force from June 8 to September 15, and appealed to drivers to respect the restrictions.
They appealed to citizens and tourists to respect traffic regulations and pay attention to road conditions and the technical condition of vehicles, to avoid traveling late at night, to take more frequent breaks during travel, and not to allow fatigue and drowsiness to endanger their safety and that of other road users.
