Aleksandar Mrkić on the list of most wanted fugitives, international arrest warrant issued

Aleksandar Mrkić's name was added to the list of most wanted fugitives, and a warrant for his arrest was made public.

The Police Directorate said that at the request of the Interpol NCB Podgorica - the Interpol General Secretariat in Lyon publicly announced an international arrest warrant for Mrkić (60), a Montenegrin citizen from Nikšić.

"Who is wanted pursuant to the orders of the Higher Court in Podgorica, in order to ensure his presence in criminal proceedings conducted before the Higher Court in Podgorica due to the existence of reasonable suspicion that he committed the criminal offenses of creating a criminal organization; money laundering; smuggling. This person is suspected of being the organizer of a criminal group that was actively involved in cigarette smuggling from the Free Customs Zone of the Port of Bar and money laundering. "The Police Directorate appeals to citizens, if they notice this person, to immediately report the same information, or to inform the police by calling 122, the nearest police station or in another way," the police statement reads.

It is added that this international public announcement is a continuation of successful activities of international operational police cooperation.

"NCB INTERPOL Podgorica will continuously inform the public about persons who are the subject of national and international searches, with a special focus on persons who are members of organized criminal groups and perpetrators of the most serious crimes against life and limb, whose continued freedom further complicates the security environment," the Police Directorate announced.
