The report of an explosive device placed in the building of the Appellate and High Court in Podgorica was false, the Police Directorate (UP) announced today.
The statement states that this morning, at around 7:45 a.m., a call was sent to the phone number of the Court of Appeal reporting that an explosive device had been placed in the building of the Appellate and High Court in Podgorica, while the trial of members of an organized criminal group was underway.
"Officers of the Sector for the Protection of Persons and Facilities, within the framework of previously defined priority activities, promptly undertook all previously planned preventive measures and actions, carried out a counter-sabotage inspection of the facility and set up security for the protected facility, which established that the report of a planted explosive device was false. In this specific case, police officers previously carried out a counter-sabotage inspection of the Appellate and High Courts, and based on information that a trial of members of an organized criminal group would be held today, which prevented the postponement of the hearing and enabled the smooth course of the trial," the statement states.
The UP added that in accordance with the Emergency Preventive Measures Plan, with synchronized and unified action by the Police Directorate and the courts, police officers "took all necessary measures and actions to protect protected facilities, maintain regular trial processes, providing a strong response to hybrid threats whose ultimate goal is to postpone and interrupt trials, predominantly by members of organized crime groups, whereby the Police Directorate once again thwarted the intention of persons who in this way cause public anxiety and have a destructive effect on law enforcement agencies, motivated ultimately by failure to issue judgments within the legal deadline."
"Officers of the Police Directorate and judicial institutions have once again, in coordinated planned activities, demonstrated the system's determination in the fight against organized crime, and in this way minimized the impact of destructive actions, reduced the level of security risk, without interrupting trials, by creating the basis for the smooth and efficient work of courts, demonstrating the determination of the system's institutions to effectively carry out the initiated procedures to the end," the UP said.
