Traffic police arrested two people over the weekend, filed 18 misdemeanor charges and issued 173 misdemeanor warrants for traffic violations, the Police Directorate announced.
It is stated that officers of the Mobile Traffic Police Unit - Interceptors, implemented increased preventive and repressive measures over the weekend.
"In addition to controlling traffic participants on the highway, members of the Mobile Unit provided operational support to the South and West regional security centers, with the aim of maintaining security on busy roads," the police said.
They said that, as part of the intensified controls, police officers from the Mobile Traffic Police Unit filed 18 misdemeanor reports, issued 173 misdemeanor warrants and temporarily confiscated six pairs of license plates due to traffic violations.
The police stated that two people were arrested and that EUR 1.589 was collected on the spot, via a POS terminal, which represents two-thirds of the amount of the prescribed fines.
"Activities will continue in the coming period, with an increased presence of police officers on all major roads, especially on roads leading to tourist centers," the statement said.
The Police Directorate said that by engaging all available resources, including the Mobile Unit, they are trying to further contribute to the overall safety of all traffic participants.
"The Police Department once again appeals to all drivers and tourists to respect traffic regulations and thereby contribute to their own safety, as well as the safety of other road users," the statement said.
