In Montenegro, 80 drivers were arrested over the weekend for driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, as well as other serious violations under the Road Traffic Safety Act, the Police Directorate announced.
The police said that 62 traffic accidents were recorded in Montenegro from Friday to Sunday, in which two people were seriously injured and 23 were slightly injured.
"Traffic police officers issued 1.457 misdemeanor warrants to road users, filed 186 misdemeanor reports and temporarily confiscated 15 pairs of license plates," the statement said.
It is stated that 44 drivers were arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol, 16 for driving under the influence of drugs, and 20 for committing other serious violations under the Road Traffic Safety Act.
According to the police, the most drivers were arrested in Podgorica, 35 of them, followed by six in Bar, and five each in Cetinje and Nikšić.
They reminded that from June 8 to September 15, a new order temporarily banning the traffic of freight vehicles, buses and campers on certain sections of roads in Montenegro is in effect.
The police appealed to drivers who operate these categories of vehicles to familiarize themselves with the text of the order and respect the restrictions.
"We appeal to citizens and tourists to respect traffic regulations and pay attention to road conditions and the technical condition of vehicles, avoid traveling late at night, take more frequent breaks during travel, and not allow fatigue and drowsiness to endanger their safety and that of other road users," the statement said.
