Former state security agent Petar Lazović said that he is "obviously a punching bag for the prosecution" and that "they are blaming him for everything they have from unsolved crimes."
He said this while presenting his defense today in the High Court, denying that he abused an alleged member of the Skaljar clan, Goran Brajović, in August 2020.
He stated that he did not know Brajović.
He said that he is "obviously a punching bag for the prosecution" and that "they are blaming him for everything they have from unsolved crimes."
"Everything I did, I did for the state of Montenegro and the security of its citizens. I did not torture, kidnap or mistreat this or any other person. They accused me without a single piece of evidence," Lazović said in his defense.
He announced that the sector in which he worked had 100 people, and that he was the only one in the dock.
"I was the only one who did everything because as far as I can see, no one was charged or prosecuted. If I were an octopus, I don't know how I would have achieved that. I believe this is a political persecution of me and my family," concluded Lazović.
Responding to questions from his defense attorney, attorney Nikola Martinović, he stated that he and his colleagues in the sector in which he was employed used radio links through which all other colleagues could hear conversations and determine someone's location.
The trial is scheduled to continue on September 24th, when witnesses are scheduled to be heard.
The pre-trial chamber of the Higher Court in Podgorica confirmed the indictment against Petar Lazović for the kidnapping and torture of Goran Brajović after he was arrested in the summer of 2020 at the border between Montenegro and Bosnia and Herzegovina along with two Colombian citizens whom he was supposed to transport to Podgorica.
Brajović and Colombian citizens Aleksandar Costana Caso Jose and Caicedo Bandoy Juan Davido were sentenced to a total of eight years in prison for membership in a criminal organization formed to commit multiple serious crimes.
Brajović and David Kaisedo were sentenced to two and a half years in prison each, while Aleksandar Costana received three years in prison.
