Closing arguments in Šćekić murder case postponed

Due to the justified inability of the joint defense attorney of the accused, attorney Dragoljub Đukanović, the presentation of closing arguments in the case for the murder of police inspector Slavoljub Šćekić has been postponed to July 11th.

This was announced by the Court of Appeal, after almost an hour of waiting for the trial scheduled for 10.30:XNUMX a.m. to begin.

"Today, a hearing was scheduled at the Court of Appeals of Montenegro for the presentation of closing arguments in this court's case against the accused Boret Saša and others. The hearing at which the closing arguments were to begin was postponed due to the justified inability of the joint defense counsel of the accused, attorney Dragoljub Đukanović, who justified his absence by submitting medical documentation, which the panel of this court immediately sent for expert examination to a forensic medicine expert, who submitted to the court an expert report and opinion that the submitted medical documentation indicates that the absence of defense counsel Đukanović from today's hearing is justified," the court said in a statement.

They added that this is why the council postponed the hearing:

"At which the closing arguments in this case were to begin, and at the same time set new hearing dates for July 11, 17 and 18, 2025."

The trial for the murder of Šćekić before the Appellate Court panel has started again after the Constitutional Court overturned the verdict that sentenced Ljubo Bigović, Saša Boreta, Milan Šćekić and Ljubo Vujadinović to 30 years in prison for the murder of Šćekić, and the now deceased Alan Kožar to six years and ten months for setting off three explosions at the construction site of the "Splendid" hotel in Bečići.

According to the abrogated verdict, the accused Milan Šćekić and Vujadinović killed a police inspector on August 30, 2005, and Boreta and Bigović incited them to that crime. According to the abrogated verdict, they did this because the police officer Šćekić was on their trail leading the investigation into attempted extortion and a series of bomb attacks on the then construction site of the "Splendid" hotel.
