The High Court Council in Podgorica reversed the decision and accepted the allegations from the appeal of the Special State Prosecutor's Office that Goran Čulić (46) and Ivan Popović (41), suspected of creating a criminal organization, be ordered to be detained in Spuž instead of being banned from leaving their apartment.
Independent public relations advisor for the Higher Court in Podgorica, Ivana Vukmirović, told "Vijesti" that the decision was changed due to the risk of flight.
Following the new court decision, officers from the Special Police Department (SPO) arrested Čulić and Popović this afternoon, who were then taken into custody.
The council, chaired by judge Amir Đokaj, reversed the earlier decision of the investigating judge of the Higher Court, who, after a hearing on Thursday evening, decided to impose a supervision measure - vacating the apartment - on the aircraft handling controller at the Airports of Montenegro, Goran Čulić, and the owner of the company "Pro Imel", Ivan Popović.
Detention in this case was previously ordered for the suspected Head of the Danilovgrad Security Department, Marko Drobnjak, and also for Podgorica resident Mate Knežević.
They are suspected of being members of the criminal organization of the fugitive NV, who is in close ties with a high-ranking member of the Kavač clan, Milan Vujotic.
Drobnjak and Knežević, as explained earlier to "Vijesti" by Ivana Vukmirović, the public relations advisor at the Higher Court in Podgorica, were remanded in custody due to the risk of flight, and the UP officer was remanded in custody due to the fear that he would destroy, hide, alter or falsify evidence or traces of a criminal offense, or that he would obstruct the proceedings by influencing witnesses or accomplices...
On Wednesday, the Special Police Department, at the order of the Special State Prosecutor's Office, carried out urgent evidentiary actions against several individuals in Podgorica, Bar and Danilovgrad, due to the existence of grounds for suspicion that they committed the criminal offenses of creating a criminal organization, abuse of official position and other offenses...
All those arrested, as well as those who are included in the SDT investigation but are not currently available, are charged with creating a criminal organization, and the suspect, Mato Knežević, is also charged with illegal possession of weapons and explosives.
