Berane: Two misdemeanor and one criminal report for drug abuse, one person arrested

The police in Berane have filed two misdemeanor charges and one criminal charge against people suspected of drug abuse, the Police Directorate announced. One of them has been arrested.

"Police officers in Berane checked the driver EA (28) and on that occasion found and confiscated from him a handmade cigarette containing the narcotic drug marijuana and a grinder with residues resembling the aforementioned narcotic drug. After he refused to undergo testing for the presence of psychoactive substances in his body, he was deprived of his liberty for committing a violation under the Road Traffic Safety Act, while a misdemeanor charge was filed against him pursuant to Article 52 of the Law on the Prevention of Drug Abuse," the police statement said.

The police said that officers of the Anti-Drug Unit filed a criminal complaint against IL (29) with the Higher State Prosecutor's Office in Bijelo Polje due to reasonable suspicion that he committed the criminal offense of illegal production, possession and distribution of narcotic drugs.

"During a check by officers of the intervention unit, he tried to throw away two packages containing the narcotic drug marijuana, after which a further inspection found three handmade cigarettes made of herbal material resembling the narcotic drug marijuana in the same person's vehicle," the statement reads.

Also, a misdemeanor charge was filed with the Misdemeanor Court in Bijelo Polje against VM (58) for committing a misdemeanor under Article 52 of the Law on Prevention of Drug Abuse.

"During a search of VM's residence, Xanax tablets without accompanying medical documentation were found, as well as a bayonet," the police statement concluded.
