The President of the Municipality of Budva, Nikola Jovanović, was beaten up in Budva, Vijesti learned from several sources.
According to sources from the Police Directorate (UP), Jovanović was attacked by three men.
Jovanović suffered serious physical injuries in the attack.
The President of the Municipality of Budva told Vijesti that he is at the Clinical Center of Montenegro (KCCG) in Podgorica, where he underwent a brain scan, and that he is currently on an infusion and is expected to be examined by a maxillofacial surgeon.
He confirmed to Vijesti earlier today that he was in the Kotor hospital.
According to information from Vijesti, Jovanović was attacked this morning at the city swimming pool where he was sitting with friends.
Jovanović told the police that he was attacked by brothers Jovo and Vidak Mitrović and two other people. Vidak is an official of the New Serbian Democracy (NSD) Budva and a member of the Board of Directors of the Coastal Property. Jovo Mitrović is listed as a person of interest (BIL) for security reasons.
Initial information from the investigation is that the police are looking for three brothers, one of whom is also registered as a member of an organized crime group (OKG).
During the local election campaign, Jovanović made a series of accusations against Mitrović, linking them to criminal activity.
The Police Directorate officially announced that Jovanović reported to the Budva Security Department today that he was physically attacked by several people he knew while he was in a restaurant on Slovenska Beach.
The statement added that Jovanović sustained injuries on this occasion that will be qualified by a specialist doctor.
"The prosecutor at the Basic State Prosecutor's Office in Kotor has been informed of the event, and on whose orders police officers are taking urgent measures and actions to determine all the facts and circumstances of this event, and to locate and prosecute the perpetrators. The public will be informed in a timely manner about the further course of activities and the outcome of police and prosecutorial actions," the Police Directorate said.
