Police link Milačić's murder to the activities of organized crime groups, searching for suspect

The police are undertaking extensive, intensive, synchronized activities in cooperation and at the order of the prosecutor at the Higher State Prosecutor's Office in Podgorica in order to shed light on the serious murder that occurred last night in Podgorica, the Police Directorate announced.

Around midnight, Ivan Milačić (32) was killed in the "Taormina" bar, located in a residential building on Svetozara Markovića Street, while two people sought medical attention.

According to information from "Vijesti", the victim was close to the Skaljari criminal clan.

The police statement also states that according to operational data, the murder "is linked to the activities of organized criminal groups."

"On the terrace of a catering facility on Svetozara Markovića Street last night, at about 10 minutes before midnight, a firearm was used by a currently unknown perpetrator. On that occasion, IM was fatally injured, while two people sustained injuries and were provided with adequate medical assistance. One of the two injured persons was detained at the Clinical Center of Montenegro for treatment and is in stable health, while the other injured person sustained minor injuries and was released without detention or observation," the Police Directorate announced.

They add that urgent measures and actions have been taken to identify and locate the murderer, and that they are taking further measures and actions to establish all facts and circumstances.

"A blockade of the immediate and wider area of the crime scene was immediately established, while an on-site investigation was carried out by the senior state prosecutor with the assistance and cooperation of police officers, during which a large number of traces were seized that will be the subject of appropriate expert examinations. In addition to members of the Regional Security Center "Centre", the Podgorica Security Department, members of other organizational units of the Police Directorate were also engaged in the investigation of this criminal offense. The Police Directorate continues to undertake intensive operational activities with the aim of identifying the perpetrator and fully clarifying all circumstances of this serious criminal offense, which, according to operational data, is a consequence, or rather, is linked to the activities of organized criminal groups," the statement reads.

They add that during 2020, Milačić was the subject of police and prosecutorial activities when the police filed a criminal complaint against him on suspicion of committing the crime of creating a criminal organization and illegal possession of weapons and explosives.
