The Government announced in its announcement for the session that the Council "will have a special focus on analyzing the security situation in the country and the efficiency of the institutional response to current challenges, including the coordination of the security sector."

They said that, due to the importance and topicality of the topic, an invitation to participate in the session was also sent to the Supreme State Prosecutor Milorad Marković, Chief Special Prosecutor Vladimir Novović, Acting Director of the Police Administration Lazar Šćepanović, and Head of the Special Police Department Predrag Šuković.

The reason for convening the Council session was the two murders that occurred in Podgorica last week.

Ivan Milačić was killed on July 19th at about ten minutes before midnight on Svetozara Markovića Street. Two people were also injured in the shooting, one of whom was a passerby. On suspicion of killing Milačić, the police in Sutomore arrested Nikola Petrović (23) from Podgorica.

President Jakov Milatović had proposed holding a session of the Defense and Security Council, butPrime Minister Milojko Spajić said that will not respond.

A session of the National Security Council may only be held in the presence of the President of the State, the Parliament and the Government.
