The Court of Appeal rejected the appeal of defense attorney Slobodan Gardašević from Nikšić and upheld the decision of the Higher Court in Podgorica to extend his detention for another two months.
He is charged with the aggravated murder of his mother - an elderly and sick woman, whom, according to the prosecution, he abused and killed by causing multiple injuries to her head and body.
The court assessed that there were still grounds for detention due to the risk of flight, possible influence on witnesses, and the gravity of the criminal offense.
The explanation states that the gravity of the crime and the length of the sentence, which can be ten years or a long-term prison sentence, represent a strong motive for escape.
The court also pointed out the fact that the defendant is divorced, does not live with children, and is not employed, which further increases the risk that, if he were released, he would move away and avoid the further course of the proceedings.
In addition, the Court of Appeal accepted the High Court's position that the defendant's stay at large could lead to influence on witnesses...
