DPS: Prosecution urgently needs to question Jelena Perović, shed light on the truth regarding Novović's activities

The Democratic Party of Socialists (DPS) called on the prosecution to question the former director of the Agency for the Prevention of Corruption (ASK) Jelena Perović as soon as possible.

They requested this after she, as they recall, said at today's hearing at the Higher Court in Podgorica that she had learned that a person from the judicial system, close to the chief special prosecutor Vladimir Novović, was smuggling cigarettes.

"The seriousness of these accusations is also contributed to by the fact that Perović pointed out that the Special State Prosecutor's Office has information about the aforementioned actions of a person close to Novović, but that instead of doing its job and prosecuting him, it has been protecting him all this time," the DPS announced.

They say that what the former director of ASK warns about is "very dangerous on many levels", "whose case is the best example of the selectivity of the SDT".

"Therefore, it is necessary to clarify before the public as soon as possible whether Novović is connected to a person from the judiciary who is smuggling cigarettes and whether the entire hunt around Jelena Perović, which was carried out under his direction, and at the behest of the current government, represents persecution because of what she knows about the current SDT. Ultimately, since it is unacceptable for the prosecution to remain silent about this, we demand that it take all actions within its jurisdiction to verify the allegations that Perović made during her defense presentation and to shed light on the truth regarding Vladimir Novović's actions," the DPS announced.
