Tivat: A girl from Serbia drowned near Cape Veslo

Divers and officers of the Floating Unit unsuccessfully tried to find and recover the lifeless body of a girl from Serbia in the sea near Luštica this afternoon.

A girl from Vrnjačka Banja drowned today at around 15 p.m., near Cape Veslo on Luštica, while taking a photo with a friend on one of the rocks.

At that moment, it is believed, the rough sea and waves pulled the girl away.

At one point, police and diver teams spotted the girl's lifeless body floating, but bad weather and waves prevented them from approaching.

Therefore, the extraction operation will continue in the morning.

The Maritime Safety and Port Management Authority (MSPA) announced that its Maritime Operations Center coordinated two search operations at sea today, in two separate cases.

"The first case was reported at 15:25 when the Herceg Novi Security Center informed that the body of a drowned woman was spotted near Cape Veslo, in Trašte Bay. Due to unfavorable weather conditions and the inability of the vessel to sail out of the Bay of Kotor, divers from the Regional Center for Underwater Demining from Bijela were engaged, with the support of a boat from the Una Tivat company that was located in the Luštica Bay marina. Also, the SAR-1 rescue boat was sent to support the diving team due to strong waves and difficult conditions at sea. The search for the body of the deceased girl will continue tomorrow with the help of a MUP helicopter and boats from the Maritime Safety and Port Management Administration," the statement reads.

The second case occurred around 16 p.m., when it was reported through the Operational-Communication Center of the Ministry of the Interior that two minors rowed from Petrovac to the island of Katič on a rubber boat and found themselves in danger.

"Immediately upon reporting, UPSUL sent a rescue boat to the endangered minors and activated the readiness of other entities in the protection and rescue system. Fortunately, intervention was not necessary as they returned safely to shore," they said.

The Maritime Safety and Port Management Authority has appealed to all citizens and tourists to exercise maximum caution when at sea, especially in conditions of strong wind and waves, and not to undertake risky ventures that could endanger their lives. They also remind that calls for help can be made to the number 129, which is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
