The Skadar Lake National Park (NP) Protection Service, in cooperation with the Fisheries Directorate of the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management and the Border Police, prosecuted 14 people for illegal fishing this month.
The National Parks of Montenegro (NPCG) announced that these individuals were processed during a month-long coordinated action called "Electricity".
It is stated that criminal charges have been filed against six people with the Basic State Prosecutor's Office for illegal fishing with electricity.
"Misdemeanor warrants were issued for the other eight by the freshwater fisheries inspector and the foreigners inspector, because one Albanian citizen was also processed in the actions of the Protection Service," the statement said.
It is stated that seven vessels and outboard motors, three probes for catching fish with electricity, eight batteries and 30 fishing nets were temporarily seized.
The Head of the Skadar Lake NP Protection Service, Vuk Saičić, said that through great effort in the field and serious operational work, they managed to implement the "Struja" operation in a very short time and bring 14 lawbreakers to justice.
He said that the action was aimed primarily at people who fish with electricity.
Saičić said that the Skadar Lake NP Protection Service will continue the fight against ecocrime in the coming period.
"And especially thanks to the strengthening of material and technical resources in the form of the purchase of vessels and outboard motors and the strengthening of personnel through the recruitment of new supervisors who will contribute to nature protection," added Saičić.
