The decision of the Supreme State Prosecutor's Office (VDT) regarding the "Telekom" affair is a step backwards in the activities of that institution, but, even worse, an indicator that within the prosecution, as well as the judiciary, there are still structures that are desperately fighting to stop investigations related to corruption at the top of the former regime, said Mirko Miličić, spokesperson for the New Serbian Democracy (NSD).
"Unfortunately, the remnants of that regime are doing everything they can to prevent institutions from functioning, and thus, among other things, are stopping Montenegro on the path to the rule of law and the integration process, but they are also creating the impression among citizens that nothing has changed in our country since 2020. This has been led by the lack of a complete and decisive dismantling of the system that has built a state for decades in which the judiciary and prosecution were the servants of one man who, judging by this epilogue to the Telekom affair, still controls certain points of power," he said.
Miličić said that Supreme State Prosecutor Milorad Marković "with this move, first of all, has once again shown that his previous work has not been good": "And we are also witnesses that he is surrounded by people who have been close to the First Family for decades. When we voted for him to be the Supreme State Prosecutor, we did not know that he would behave like this, we expected more."
The NSD spokesperson believes that Montenegro was not a democratic state, but "a dictatorship ruled by a corrupt and criminal regime." The job of the new Supreme Prosecutor and Chief Special Prosecutor, he said, is to "react legally and prosecute the perpetrators of these phenomena."
"However, we conclude that the VDT Marković does not have the strength and courage to participate in the creation of a new, legal, democratic state of Montenegro. It is clear that vetting must take place in the prosecution and judiciary as soon as possible, and that new battles will follow in the reforms, and that those who hinder and obstruct this fight cannot be in the same camp as those who want law and justice," said Miličić.
"Vijesti" announced yesterday that State Prosecutor at the State Prosecutor's Office Veljko Rutović, acting on a complaint by the Network for the Affirmation of the Non-Governmental Sector (MANS) against the actions of the Special State Prosecutor's Office (SDT), determined that the SDT made a correct and lawful decision with sufficiently clear reasons for dismissing the criminal complaint filed by that NGO against former head of state Milo Đukanović, his sister Ana Đukanović and others for abuse of official position, accepting bribes and creating a criminal organization during the sale of the former state-owned company "Telekom".
