Security guards rescued those caught poaching on Lake Skadar, one eventually jumped out of the boat and escaped

The National Parks of Montenegro announced that members of the Protection Service at Lake Skadar were the actors in an unusual scene.

Members of the Protection Service first rescued poachers Nuš Drešević from Tuzi and Albanian citizen Ardit Gavočej, and the latter eventually escaped from them.

The statement says that everything happened yesterday in the Tuzi region and near the border with Albania.

The Basic State Prosecutor's Office in Podgorica ordered Drešević to be detained for up to 72 hours on suspicion of committing the criminal offense of illegal fishing. The statement from the ODT also states that Drešević has been convicted several times and is a repeat offender in the commission of the criminal offense of poaching.

"In the afternoon, two supervisors of the Protection Service, while performing regular work tasks in the area of ​​Punkt Stanaj in the Municipality of Tuzi, noticed a boat and two people fishing with a cable probe. After loud warnings from the supervisors of the Protection Service, these people tried to move away from the place. In an attempt to stop them, the metal vessel hit the Protection Service vessel and then began to sink. The supervisors came to the aid of these people by boarding them in the Protection Service boat, and after checking their identification, it was determined that they were ND from Tuzi and an Albanian citizen AG," it was announced.

They add that the boat contained illegal fishing equipment and several pieces of carp.

"With great efforts by the Protection Service, the sunken vessel was pulled out of the water and brought to the official premises of the Skadar Lake NP and temporarily seized. In addition to the metal vessel without registration marks, an outboard motor, an electrical converter, two batteries, an electric probe, three bags for storing fish, cables for connecting electricity, a tank and illegally caught fish were also seized," the statement reads.

When the supervisors and the head of the Protection Service headed with the poachers towards the official premises, while sailing near the border zone, they encountered another vessel, and Gavočej jumped out of the vessel.

Gavočej was then pulled out of the water by the people from that vessel and they quickly departed towards the territory of Albania.

"This situation is just one in a series that the supervisors of the Border Protection Service have faced in the past, and there have also been serious threats to the safety of employees. On this occasion, activities have been taken towards the competent state authorities of Montenegro so that such problems can be resolved through joint activities of both countries in favor of nature protection and combating ecocrime," the Skadar Lake NP announced.
