Deputy Prime Minister of Montenegro for Political System, Judiciary and Anti-Corruption Momo Koprivica announced today that cigarette smuggling, once a business of the powerful, is now a criminal offense without exception.
"Today: arrests of police officers, prosecutors and tycoons from the Bemax group. Yesterday: 1,3 billion cigarettes destroyed in one procedure at the Port of Bar. The state does not give up and does not trade with the mafia. A good example for the Western Balkans," Koprivica wrote on the social network X.
He made this statement in response to the arrest today of several former senior police officials, businessman Aleksandar Mijajlović and senior state prosecutor Andrijana Nastic, in one of the largest operations of the Special State Prosecutor's Office (SDT) and the Special Police Department (SPO).
