Former special prosecutor Saša Čađenović, while presenting his defense before the Higher Court in Podgorica, denied and refuted the allegations in the indictment and listed in detail all the members of the Kavač clan he prosecuted for the most serious crimes.
"The allegations in this indictment are not supported by any evidence. They significantly contradict the evidence that has been unavailable to me and my defense for almost three years," he said in his defense.
He also listed the number of cases and indictments and pointed out that these individuals are still being prosecuted in court today based on investigations and indictments he conducted. He pointed out that Duško Roganović is among them. He stated that this confirms that the allegations in the indictment against him are contrary to the evidence, because he prosecuted individuals involved in the events that the SDT claims he did not.
Former prosecutor Čađenović said that the author of the indictment is hiding evidence, including the fact that the statement of the cooperating witness Milan Kankaraš was previously rejected by the court as evidence. He added that the Sky messages in which members of Čađenović's "Kavač clan" perceive him as a threat and want to harm him, to "cripple" him, were not shown.
With the presentation of Saša Čađenović's defense, the trial of former Police Administration official Zoran Lazović, former Chief Special Prosecutor Milivoj Katnić, and Special Prosecutor Saša Čađenović continued today before the special panel of judge Veljko Radovanović.
Defendant Čađenović said that at a meeting in the Netherlands, Europol informed him that they had conducted checks and determined that he had no connections to individuals from criminal groups or clans. He stated that Europol then informed them that they only wanted to continue providing information and data to him. He said that he told them at the time that he did not decide on this because it was not within his jurisdiction, and that the Chief Special Prosecutor then gave his consent for him to receive the Sky material as requested by Europol.
He added that a number of pieces of evidence were deliberately hidden from the court, both at the stage of confirming the indictment and later.
"I never gave orders to Petar Lazović and Lazović did not attend meetings related to the work of the Special Investigation Team. The allegations of the accusations that I protected Duško Roganović are incorrect and untrue," Čađenović stated.
He stated that Roganović was prosecuted in several proceedings that he led, for the most serious crimes, as were numerous members of the Kavač clan, and when there was sufficient evidence for a well-founded suspicion.
"The decision on the exemption of the statement in question became final on March 9, 2023, and the indictment against me was filed on June 8, 2023. This decision is not included as evidence in the indictment against me. This is precisely why I said that the creator of the indictment is hiding evidence," Čađenović believes.
He added that his right to defense was violated several times by the "authors of the indictment", and that the "authors of the indictment" confused "people from Škalja" and "people from Kavča".
Indictments filed against Roganović, Zvicer, Kašćelan
Čađenović stated in his defense today that it is precisely from the Sky communications that were published in the media, but were not included in the indictment, that it emerges how Radoje Zvicer, Duško Roganović and other members of the criminal organization perceived him.
"I will paraphrase their communications. He is crazy, an idiot when he gets mad at someone. There are messages where they say that I am framing them for crimes, indictments and that no one can influence me. In the communications they say that they will set me on fire, maim me, make me disabled. I learned about these messages from the media, they have not been in the case for three whole years," Čađenović said.
He added that it was he who filed the indictment against Roganović, Zvicer, Slobodan Kašćelan, Milan Vujotić and all those whom the "creators of the indictment" claim he protected.
