The Court of Appeal of Montenegro today sentenced Damir Selimović to 35 and Danko Božović to 30 years in prison for the murder of Dragica Selimović in Bijelo Polje on October 26, 2023.
The statement states that today, after the hearing before that court, the Council of the Appellate Court of Montenegro publicly announced its decision in the procedure for deciding on the appeals of the Higher State Prosecutor's Office in Bijelo Polje and the defense attorneys of the accused Damir Selimović, Danko Božović and Jašar Selimović, which were filed against the verdict of the Higher Court in Bijelo Polje of April 8, 2024.
"The Court of Appeal of Montenegro accepted the appeal of the Higher State Prosecutor's Office in Bijelo Polje and reversed the verdict of the Higher Court in Bijelo Polje regarding the legal qualification of the offense in relation to the accused Damir Selimović and Danko Božović by declaring them guilty of the criminal offense of aggravated murder in co-perpetration and regarding the decision on the sentence, by sentencing the accused Damir Selimović to a long-term prison sentence of 35 years, and the accused Danko Božović to a long-term prison sentence of 30 years," the statement states.
The Court of Appeal added that the appeals against the accused Jašar Selimović were rejected as unfounded and the first-instance verdict was confirmed.
"By the verdict of the Higher Court in Bijelo Polje, against which appeals were filed and decided by the Court of Appeal, the accused Damir Selimović and Danko Božović were found guilty of having committed the criminal offense of robbery as co-perpetrators, while the accused Jašar Selimović was found guilty of having committed the criminal offense of failure to report the criminal offense and the perpetrator and the criminal offense of illegal possession of weapons and explosives. Due to the criminal offenses committed, by that verdict the accused Damir Selimović was sentenced to 20 years in prison, the accused Danko Božović to 18 years in prison, and the accused Jašar Selimović to 1 year and 3 months in prison. More detailed reasons will be provided in the written copy of the verdict Kž.br. 139/24," the Court of Appeal said.
According to the indictment of the Higher State Prosecutor's Office, Damir Selimović and Božović killed Dragica Selimović and stole 5.000 euros on October 26, 2023.
Prosecutor Vladan Đalović previously requested the maximum sentences in Montenegro for Božović and Damir Selimović - 40 years in prison each.
