The police arrested five people today in an operation codenamed "FROM" aimed at suppressing street sales and smuggling of narcotics and breaking up a network of street dealers, the Police Directorate (UP) announced today.
The statement added that during the operation, residential buildings and passenger motor vehicles were searched at several locations in the Podgorica and Pljevlja areas.
"Due to suspicion that they committed the criminal offense of illegal production, possession and distribution of narcotic drugs, SG (49) from Podgorica, NK (22) from Pljevlja, Dž. K. (36) from Pljevlja, DH (30) from Pljevlja and EH (21) from Pljevlja were deprived of their liberty by order of the Higher State Prosecutor's Office in Bijelo Polje. In the activities so far within this case, police officers have filed 15 criminal reports against a total of 16 persons with the state prosecutor's offices. Of these, nine reports were filed against 10 persons for criminal offenses in the field of narcotic drug abuse, four reports against four persons for the criminal offense of illegal crossing of the state border and human smuggling, while two persons are suspected of the criminal offense of aggravated theft," the UP statement states.
The institution added that ten misdemeanor charges were filed against ten people for committing violations under the Drug Abuse Prevention Act.
"Police officers seized several types of narcotics in this case: marijuana, cocaine, heroin, amphetamine and other synthetic drugs. A passenger motor vehicle was also seized and will be the subject of further checks," the UP said.
"Vijesti" announced earlier today that the police have launched a large-scale operation to arrest suspects for unauthorized drug trafficking, which is being carried out simultaneously in the area of Podgorica and the "West" Regional Police Center, which includes Nikšić, Pljevlja, Žabljak and Šavnik.
According to information from "Vijesti", the police searched the premises of several people who, according to operational records, are connected to street drug distribution.
The action is the result of months of work.
