Former Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Petar Ivanović was arrested for yesterday's incident during which he blocked the path of vehicles escorting Prime Minister Milojko Spajić and insulted police officers escorting the Prime Minister.

The Police Directorate (UP) announced that a former senior official of the Democratic Party of Socialists (DPS) will be held criminally liable for insulting and belittling police officers.

"Last night, officers from the Podgorica Security Department arrested PI (60), the former Minister of Agriculture, for committing a violation under Article 11 of the Law on Public Order and Peace, to the detriment of two police officers whom he obstructed and belittled while performing his official duty," the UP said.

The security institution points out that Ivanovic is suspected of obstructing the movement of an official police convoy on October 15th, around 15 p.m., while driving a Toyota vehicle with Podgorica license plates, during the task of securing and escorting the Prime Minister of Montenegro.

"While driving along the Boulevard of Saint Peter of Cetinje, he cut off a column of escort vehicles, and did not act according to the clearly displayed light and sound signals of official vehicles, thereby endangering the safe movement of the protected person and the escorting officials. The PI refused to provide documents for inspection by police officers and on two occasions addressed a series of insulting and threatening words to the police officers accompanying the Prime Minister. After collecting information from the PI, officers of the Podgorica Security Department informed the state prosecutor at the Basic State Prosecutor's Office in Podgorica about the event, who stated that there were no elements of a criminal offense in the aforementioned event. Police officers of the Podgorica Security Department, assessing the existence of a misdemeanor, deprived the PI of his liberty due to the misdemeanor committed under Article 11 of the Law on Public Order and Peace - obstruction and disparagement of an official. The suspected PI will be brought to the Minor Offense Court in Podgorica within the legal deadline," the UP statement reads.

"Vijesti" reported last night that the incident occurred on Blažov Most in Podgorica when the former minister first "cut through" the convoy of vehicles escorting Spajić in a Toyota, and then followed him, insulting him, all the way to the Government building.

He and several former government officials are accused of distributing money and causing damage to Montenegro of over 300.000 euros from April 2014 to July 2019, contrary to the Regulation on the Implementation of Agrarian Policy Measures...

They are charged with suspicious payments to only one non-governmental organization - the National Association of Winegrowers and Winemakers, and the amounts of money given to that civil society over a five-year period varied from 450 euros to 70.000 euros.

The Special State Prosecutor's Office (SDT) claims that Ivanovic facilitated the majority of illegal payments during 2014, 2015, and 2016.
