During October 2025, Customs Administration officers prevented three separate attempts to smuggle narcotics through international shipments, as part of regular control and risk analysis activities, the Customs Administration announced today.
"Namely, during a regular inspection of shipments at the Podgorica Post Office, customs officers, on October 15, 2025, carried out a detailed inspection of a shipment arriving from the United States of America (USA) in the name of JA, a person from Podgorica, during which it was determined that the package contained plant materials with a characteristic odor, packaged in several vacuum bags. Further analysis determined that it was a narcotic drug - marijuana, with a total mass of about 3,6 kg," the statement states.
The Customs Administration added that the Anti-Drugs Sector of the Police Administration was notified of the above, and they took over further action.
"On October 27, 2025, Customs Administration officers conducted, as part of regular activities, a detailed inspection of an international shipment in the customs warehouse of the Podgorica Airport Customs Office, which arrived by air transport from Mexico, which was declared as samples of women's shoes - espadrilles, with a total weight of 2,8 kg, and declared in the name of HT from Podgorica, during which a white substance hidden in the soles of the shoes was observed, after which preliminary tests were conducted, and it was determined that it was a chemical substance DL – Metamfetamin, in an amount of about 500 grams," the statement reads.
The Customs Administration said that the competent services of the Police Administration were immediately notified of the discovered case, which arrested HT and continued further proceedings in accordance with the law.
"On October 29, 2025, customs officers, also at the Podgorica Post Office, while inspecting a shipment arriving from the USA, which was addressed to BK from Zeta, noticed plant matter hidden in textile items. After a detailed inspection, it was determined that it was marijuana, weighing a total of about 1,8 kg. The competent services of the Police Directorate were immediately notified of the case, which took over the further course of action in accordance with the law," the statement reads.
The Customs Administration states that the above cases are the result of regular activities of customs officers, carried out as part of risk analysis and customs controls of shipments, which revealed and prevented the smuggling of significant quantities of narcotic drugs.
"The Customs Administration reminds the public that customs officers have spotted, identified and documented the aforementioned shipments, which has enabled further processing of the cases, and we add that these results confirm the high level of responsibility of customs officers, as well as the importance of the work of the Customs Administration in protecting society from drug smuggling, endangering public health and the safety of citizens of Montenegro," the Customs Administration said.
