Convicted fugitive Nikola Ivović was arrested in Herceg Novi, the Police Directorate told "Vijesti".
Ivović and Dušan Šilj were sentenced to 17 years and six months in prison for the murder of Stefan Šarović.
Šarović was killed on June 6, 2019, in Herceg Novi, and the detention of those accused of that crime was terminated in November 2023, due to failure to reach a first-instance verdict within the legal deadline.
Both have been on the run ever since.
The Police Directorate said that in addition to the man convicted of murder, they also arrested Vitorij Šuković and Srđan Ljubisavljević.
"Police officers of the Regional Security Center "South", Herceg Novi Security Department, undertaking intensive activities to locate persons for whom wanted notices have been issued, and acting on the basis of operational data, located and deprived of liberty the person NI (35) from Herceg Novi, who is wanted for serving a 17-year prison sentence, to which he was sentenced by a final verdict of the Higher Court in Podgorica for the criminal offense of murder in complicity, which was committed in Herceg Novi on June 6, 2019, to the detriment of S. Š.", said the UP.
They explained that Novljanin Šuković (29) was arrested on the basis of a national arrest warrant, due to serving a prison sentence of three years and six months according to a final verdict of the Higher Court in Podgorica for several criminal acts of robbery that were previously committed in the Herceg Novi area.
"These individuals were located in an apartment in that city, owned by a third party - S. Lj. (46), a citizen of the Republic of Serbia, who was deprived of his liberty on suspicion of having committed the criminal offense of assisting the perpetrator after the criminal offense was committed, and he will be brought before the acting prosecutor for further jurisdiction within the legal deadline," the UP said.
They point out that the two convicted will be taken to UIKS to serve their prison sentences during the day.
"This activity once again confirms that the officers of the Police Directorate are continuously, indiscriminately and decisively undertaking activities to locate and detain persons wanted at the national and international level for the most serious criminal offenses. We emphasize that all persons who provide logistical support to the wanted persons will be prosecuted in accordance with the law. The officers of the Police Directorate are continuing their activities to locate and detain prominent members and leaders of organized crime groups," the UP said.
