Competition announced for police chief

The Human Resources Directorate has announced a public competition for the vacant position of Director of the Police Directorate.

The public competition was announced at the request of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, which explained that the Director of the Police Directorate is appointed for a period of five years.

The position of acting director of the UP has been held by Lazar Šćepanović since December 2024.

Before him, in his full term, since 2021, the public service was led by Zoran Brđanin, who was replaced by two executive government bodies since 2023.

After his departure, Brđanin stated, among other things, that he "understands that his inflexibility towards particular interests to the detriment of the public interest remains an insurmountable obstacle to continuing his engagement."

"A VII1 level of educational qualification is required, a passed professional exam for work in state bodies, at least 10 years of work experience in jobs with a VII1 level of educational qualification, of which at least five years in managerial positions in the police, Ministry of Internal Affairs, Ministry of Defense or the National Security Agency, or at least five years in a judicial or prosecutorial position," the competition states.

The note states that candidates can submit a copy of the required documentation to the Human Resources Administration, while they are required to provide the original to the authorized officer of the Human Resources Administration for the conduct of the competition.

Verification of the candidate's competencies, knowledge and abilities involves the preparation of a written paper, which contains an overview of priorities and proposals for improving the work process, or the state of affairs in the field of work for which the candidate is appointed or appointed.

The documentation must be submitted within 20 days from the date of publication of the competition.
