SPO enters Rožaj police: former chief Sead Husović arrested

Officers from the Special Police Department arrested several people in Rožaje.

The arrests were carried out on the orders of the Special State Prosecutor's Office.

SPO officers entered the Rožaje police station.

Former police commander and head of criminal investigations in Rožaje, Sead Husović, has been arrested.

The SDT opened an investigation against Husović and another former police officer on suspicion that they were part of a cigarette smuggling ring.

"On the order of the Special State Prosecutor's Office, the Special Police Department is carrying out urgent evidentiary actions against several persons in Rožaje due to the existence of grounds for suspicion that they committed the criminal offense of creating a criminal organization, and several persons have been deprived of their liberty, including an officer of the Police Directorate of the Rožaje Security Department of the Regional Security Center 'North'," the Special State Prosecutor's Office (SDT) announced.

The SDT adds that after the completion of the evidentiary actions being taken and the interrogation of persons deprived of their liberty as suspects, they will inform the public about their results and the decision on the further course of the proceedings.

Husović suspended in March

Husović is the former head of the criminal police in Rožaje. He was suspended in March on the orders of Interior Minister Danilo Šaranović.

In 2013, Sead Husović's garage in Rožaje was set on fire, and the fire also consumed his Audi A6. At that time, he was an inspector for the fight against drugs.

After the suspension of Husović and several other police officers, Šaranović, without revealing the names of those whose official badges were temporarily revoked, announced that, following the proposal of his immediate superiors, and with the opinion of the Director of the Police Administration, Lazar Šćepanović, he had issued decisions to suspend four more police officers from the Regional Security Center "North".

"They were suspended on various grounds, such as the criminal offenses of creating a criminal organization, abuse of official position, accepting bribes, as well as due to disciplinary proceedings initiated for serious breach of official duty under Article 173, paragraph 1, item 28 of the Law on Internal Affairs - the existence of security obstacles to further work," read a statement sent from the cabinet of the Minister of Internal Affairs.
