T.Đ. (62) from Podgorica was arrested on suspicion of committing the crime of human trafficking by forcing a female person to provide sexual services for money.
The arrest operation was carried out by officers of the Criminal Police Unit for Suppression of Blood and Sexual Offenses of the Podgorica Security Department, together with the Department for Suppression of Criminal Offenses of Human Trafficking, Human Smuggling and Illegal Migration, Smuggling of Weapons and Explosives, and Criminal Offenses against Other Goods Protected by International Law.
The criminal act was discovered based on operational data, and the police, in coordination with the Higher State Prosecutor's Office in Podgorica, "carried out the action carefully, in order to bring the person responsible to justice and protect the victim from further sexual exploitation."
"Police measures and actions taken in this police operation indicate the suspicion that T.Đ, aware of his act, the execution of which he wanted and knowing that his act was prohibited, committed the criminal offense he is charged with in the manner that in the previous year on the territory of the Municipality of Podgorica, taking advantage of the difficult circumstances of the injured female person known to him, by threats and intimidation, and for the purpose of sexual exploitation, he recruited, induced and forced the injured woman to provide sexual services for money, thereby sexually exploiting this person and taking advantage of her position of powerlessness," the Police Directorate announced.
The suspect T.Đ. was brought to the Higher State Prosecutor's Office in Podgorica today, with a criminal complaint, on suspicion of having committed the aforementioned criminal offense.
"The injured party, as a victim of violence and human trafficking, was provided with the necessary professional assistance and support, acting with special care, caution and in accordance with the principles of protecting the dignity of the victim, in cooperation with other competent services," the police added.
They also point out that since the beginning of the year, Police Directorate officers have discovered and processed 23 criminal acts of human trafficking and arrested 23 suspects.
"These individuals were prosecuted by the competent prosecutors with 21 criminal charges. The police identified 38 victims of these crimes, to whom they, together with other institutions and establishments, provided protection. During the aforementioned period, these injured persons were victims of sexual exploitation, labor exploitation, begging and forced - arranged marriages," the statement reads.
They say that police officers "continue to take comprehensive and intensive measures and actions" aimed at preventing, detecting, arresting and prosecuting persons who have committed a criminal offense or persons associated with human trafficking, as well as activities to provide protection to victims.
