The state of Montenegro is obliged to pay Serbian Orthodox Church (SPC) priest Miajlo Backović 6.000 euros in damages, as it is liable for defamation through the Udar.me portal, founded ahead of the 2020 parliamentary elections.

"The Basic Court in Kotor, in case P. No. 653/25, upon the lawsuit filed by Miajlo Backović against the defendant State of Montenegro – the Ministry of Culture and Media, adopted the plaintiff's claim. After conducting the evidentiary procedure, the court determined that the content published on the portal 'Udar.me' violated the plaintiff's right to honor, reputation, dignity and psychological integrity, and that the manner of processing, addressing and presenting the disputed publications was not based on verified facts, which created a false and offensive image of the plaintiff," said the spokesperson for the Basic Court in Kotor, Judge Veljko Bulatović.

The court, as he stated, awarded the plaintiff 6.000 euros in compensation for non-pecuniary damage, assessing the intensity and duration of mental pain, the degree of damage to reputation and dignity, as well as the consequences that the publication caused in the plaintiff's private and professional life.

The verdict was delivered by judge Ksenija Baljević.
