Former Assistant Director of the Police Directorate, Dejan Knežević, and former Head of the Department for the Suppression of Serious Crimes, Milorad Žižić, were ordered to be detained for up to 72 hours after being questioned by the Special State Prosecutor's Office.
Knežević's defense attorney, attorney Ranko Radonjić, told "Vijesti" that special prosecutors suspect Knežević and Žižić of being members of an organized criminal group formed, according to their claims, by the previously arrested former chief special prosecutor Milivoje Katnić and former police official Zoran Lazović, and of which former special prosecutor Saša Čađenović is also a member.
"In addition to this criminal offense, he is charged with the criminal offense of forging an official document and the criminal offense of illegal possession of weapons. During yesterday's search of the apartment where he lives, which is owned by his late father, a certain number of ammunition was found, I think nine pieces, among other ammunition that does not correspond to the caliber of ammunition for which he has a permit to keep and carry weapons. I think he also has a private service pistol. When it comes to the criminal offense of forging a document, we assume that it relates to the lifting of the ban on Veljko Belivuk and Marko Miljković from entering Montenegro in 2021 or 2020," said Radonjić.
He added that Knežević presented a detailed defense and that he addressed every question from both the prosecutor and himself as defense attorney, and presented his findings and role in all of this in detail.
"At the time the ban on Belivuk and Miljković was lifted, I think that is extremely important, he was in the position of Head of the Anti-Drug Sector. So he had no connection or knowledge at that time. Later, only from the position of Assistant Director of Police, or Acting Director of Police, he submitted certain information at the request of the prosecution, and there is a facsimile of it on that document. He explained and explained in detail that he did not prepare that information, but rather people who deal with that work in a certain general crime sector, and that he was only obliged as Assistant Director of Police to put his facsimile or forward it to the prosecution," said Radonjić.
During a search of Knežević's apartment, the police found 9 bullets that did not match the caliber of the weapon he had a license for.
Milorad Žižić's lawyer, Mubera Kurpejović, said that her client did not answer questions.
"So we'll see tomorrow what the investigating judge will decide. He pointed out what his team, or rather the department he headed, did during the disputed period he is accused of, what results they achieved, how many members of criminal groups he prosecuted, how many cases received a court epilogue," said Kurpejović.
Knežević and Žižić were arrested yesterday by officers of the Special Police Department (SPO), in an operation led by the SDT.
The prosecutor's office announced at the time that they were suspected of creating a criminal organization and other criminal offenses.
