The Court of Appeal of Montenegro overturned the first-instance verdict of the Higher Court in Podgorica and sentenced Lazar Nedović to 15 years in prison for murder, and Pero Laličić to the same amount for attempted aggravated murder.
The Court of Appeals decided on the appeals of the Special State Prosecutor's Office (SDT), the accused Nedović and Laličić, and their defense attorney, which were filed against the verdict of the Special Department of the Higher Court in Podgorica of July 8 last year.
As announced by the Court of Appeal, the first-instance verdict was revised with regard to the factual description, legal assessment of the offense, and the decision on punishment.
"The defendants were sentenced to 15 years in prison each, Nedović for the criminal offense of murder, and Laličić for the criminal offense of attempted aggravated murder," the statement said.
The court rejected the appeal of the SDT and upheld the first-instance verdict, which acquitted the accused Nedović, Laličić, Mitar Marković, Mošo Paović and the now deceased Žarko Pejaković of the criminal offense of creating a criminal organization, and Marković of the charge of attempted aggravated murder by aiding and abetting.
The Court of Appeals said that more detailed reasons would be provided in the written version of the verdict.
