Supreme State Prosecutor Milorad Marković was in The Hague where, at the invitation of Eurojust, he participated in a high-level international meeting that brought together the prosecutors general of Latin America and the Western Balkans.
During his stay, Marković signed bilateral memoranda of understanding with the public prosecutors' offices of Colombia, Brazil, Chile, Uruguay, Paraguay, and the Dominican Republic, as well as a Joint Declaration of the prosecutors' offices of the Western Balkans, Latin America, and the Collegium of Eurojust, opening a new framework for cooperation in the fight against the most serious forms of crime.
As announced by the Supreme State Prosecutor's Office, the event was also attended by the State Prosecutor for Liaison with Eurojust, Jelena Đaletić.
"The meetings held on December 2 and 3, 2025 at the headquarters of Eurojust represent one of the most significant international forums of this kind, and Montenegro participates in it as an equal partner of countries facing similar security challenges. That is why the signed memoranda have special weight - they establish direct and secure channels of communication, enable faster exchange of key operational information and open up the possibility of conducting joint and coordinated investigations in cases where criminal networks operate simultaneously on the territories of several countries and continents," it was announced.
These documents, it is added, create concrete institutional mechanisms that will enable, in particular, the Special State Prosecutor's Office, but also other state prosecutor's offices in Montenegro, to conduct cross-border investigations more efficiently, obtain evidence from abroad more quickly, and improve operational coordination with partner prosecutors' offices. This, it was announced, paves the way for Montenegro to participate more intensively in international operations, including the formation of joint investigation teams and the conduct of parallel investigations in cases of particular importance.
"At the same time, by signing the Joint Declaration of the Prosecutor's Offices of the Western Balkans and Latin America and the Eurojust Collegium, they confirm their joint commitment to the fight against organized crime in the areas of drug trafficking, human trafficking, cybercrime, migrant smuggling, environmental crime and other transnational crimes. The Declaration emphasizes that modern criminal networks can only be suppressed through a coordinated, timely and joint international response, and represents an important step towards creating a stronger, more connected and operationally harmonized international prosecutorial cooperation. By participating in panels, expert sessions and bilateral meetings with colleagues from Latin America and Europe, the Chief State Prosecutor and the State Prosecutor for Liaison with Eurojust once again affirmed Montenegro's commitment to strengthening international judicial ties, improving domestic capacities and continuing cooperation with partners in the fight against the most serious forms of crime. Thus, Montenegro confirms its role as a reliable, active and responsible partner in the international judicial community," the statement reads.
These activities of the Prosecutor's Office were implemented with the support of the WB CrimJust and EL PACCTO 2.0 projects.
