The Basic State Prosecutor's Office in Bijelo Polje filed an indictment today against MK from Bijelo Polje, on suspicion of endangering the safety of "Vijesti" journalist Jelena Jovanović, the Bijelo Polje Public Prosecutor's Office announced.
An indictment with a proposal for the extension of surveillance measures for the criminal offense of endangering security was filed with the Basic Court in that city.
As previously reported, acting on a report from Jovanović on October 10 this year that she had received messages with offensive and disturbing content from a person on the social network Facebook, Bijelo Polje police officers took priority actions to identify the person responsible and protect the journalist, and after taking measures and actions, MK from Bijelo Polje was identified.
"Police officers, upon the order of the state prosecutor at the Basic State Prosecutor's Office in Bijelo Polje, filed a criminal complaint against MK on suspicion that he committed the criminal offense of endangering the safety of the aforementioned journalist," the UP statement states.
The police added that it is suspected that on September 12, 2025, MK sent several messages and photos of offensive and disturbing content to journalist Jovanović via the social network Facebook, which caused her to feel fear and anxiety.
"The Police Directorate will continue to respond decisively and as a priority to all forms of threats and pressure directed at journalists, taking measures to protect them, identify perpetrators and prosecute any form of threat to their safety. In cooperation with the State Prosecutor's Office, measures are being taken to ensure a safe environment for the unhindered work of journalists, professional and investigative activities, thereby strengthening the protection of media workers, a free media environment and the rule of law," the UP statement concluded.
