The detention of businessmen Vlado Ivanović and Ranko Ubović, suspected of money laundering, has been lifted.
This decision was made by investigative judges of the Higher Court in Podgorica, Suzana Mugoša and Goran Šćepanović, concluding that after the witness was heard before the Special State Prosecutor's Office, the grounds for detention ceased to exist.
"The grounds for detention ended today with the hearing of the last witness. The SDT was unwilling to request the termination of detention from the investigating judges, justifying it with an incredible reason that is unknown in the history of criminal law, which is that there are two more conditional grounds for extending detention, which is to await the decision of the Court of Appeal of Montenegro. Or in other words, to remain in detention in advance. Of course, I immediately addressed the judges to request an opinion from the Special State Prosecutor's Office (SDT) and to find out whether all witnesses had been heard," said Piperović. Judges Mugoša and Šćepanović immediately addressed the SDT, asking for a statement. Since no one was still in detention without a legal basis, which would mean that they were held hostage in detention, their detention was terminated today by the decisions of the investigating judges Suzana Mugoša and Goran Šćepanović," said Piperović, the defense attorney of Aleksandar Mijajlović, who is also a suspect in this investigation.
In addition to Ubović, Ivanović and Mijajlović, the investigation also includes former police official Zoran Lazović, as well as the companies Bemax and Master Inženjering.
"The investigating judges of the Higher Court in Podgorica, deciding upon the proposal of the defense counsels of the defendants VI and RU, issued decisions terminating the detention of the aforementioned defendants. The defendants VI and RU were previously ordered to be detained due to the risk of influencing witnesses. As the witnesses were heard before the SDT during the investigation, the investigating judges found that the grounds for detention ceased to exist," announced Ivana Vukmirović, independent public relations advisor of the Higher Court in Podgorica.
