Đ.R. (25), from Podgorica, was charged with the criminal offense of domestic violence or violence in a family community under the Criminal Code of Montenegro, and was found guilty and sentenced to one year in prison. The verdict was issued by the Basic Court in Ulcinj.
The Public Relations Department of the Basic Court in Ulcinj announced that the parties have the right to appeal against the aforementioned verdict within 15 days from the date of receipt of the written copy of the verdict.
"The accused Đ.R. was sentenced to 1 (one) year in prison and his detention was extended after the verdict was pronounced due to the risk of flight and repetition of the criminal offense. Namely, the accused, in Ulcinj, in the Nova Mahala settlement, seriously injured his ex-partner in the presence of children, by hitting her in the nose with a clenched fist, during which the injured party suffered serious physical injuries," the statement states.
It is added that when determining the sentence, the Court considered all circumstances that are relevant to the sentence, "and found that the sentence imposed in this way will sufficiently influence the accused not to commit criminal offenses in the future, especially those against marriage and family."
"A prison sentence measured in this way will influence others not to commit criminal offenses and express a clear social condemnation of every form of such behavior of a person, in which way the goals of both special and general prevention will be fully achieved. In addition, this penal policy indicates to every individual in Montenegro that every form of violence will be responded to with a harsh penal policy and thus demonstrate a zero tolerance threshold for every form of violence," the Public Relations Service of the Basic Court in Ulcinj said in a statement.
