The special panel, chaired by judge Veljko Radovanović, rejected a proposal by lawyer Zoran Piperović to have his client Zoran Lazović's detention lifted.
Special Prosecutor Miloš Šoškić opposed the defense's proposal.
Lawyers Piperović and Stefan Jovanović explained the proposal for the termination of detention. They suggested that Lazović be ordered to be banned from leaving his apartment, have his travel document confiscated, and be placed under electronic surveillance.
"I knew that someone's goal was for Zoran Lazović to die in the pre-trial detention center because there was no other way to explain it. When I saw that prosecutor Miloš Šoškić did not act on the decision of the indictment review panel and when he returned it without corrections, I knew that the indictment had to be confirmed. I knew that the entire operation was designed to keep Lazović and Katnić, figuratively speaking, in Spuž without any pathos. I am submitting this proposal because I respect the panel and especially you as the president of this panel because I am sure that you will not think about whether the decision will please Aleksa Bečić, Momo Koprivica and of course Boris Bogdanović. I am sure of that, no matter what you decide," emphasized lawyer Piperović.
He referred to the possibility of Lazović escaping.
"Can you imagine that Zoran Lazović could escape and leave his grandchildren, his children behind? Can anyone think that a man of almost 70 years old would escape, leave his family behind and hide with Belivuk and Miljković," said lawyer Piperović.
