Police officers arrested 102 drivers over the weekend for driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, refusing to take a test, and other serious violations under the Road Traffic Safety Act.
As announced by the Police Directorate, 52 traffic accidents were recorded on Montenegrin roads from December 26 to 28, in which two people died, seven were seriously injured, and 24 were slightly injured.
It is alleged that traffic police officers, as part of their repressive activities, filed 253 misdemeanor citations, issued 1.806 misdemeanor warrants, temporarily confiscated 18 pairs of license plates and removed the same number of vehicles from traffic.
"102 drivers were arrested, of which 45 for driving under the influence of alcohol or refusing to take a breathalyzer test, 13 for driving under the influence of narcotics or other psychoactive substances or refusing to submit to testing, and 43 drivers for committing other serious offenses," the statement said.
The police said that, of the total number of people arrested, 51 were arrested in Podgorica, and eight each in Budva and Danilovgrad.
The police administration appealed to all traffic participants to respect traffic regulations and thereby contribute to the personal and safety of other traffic participants.
