Montenegrin police have arrested an Albanian citizen, BM (41), suspected of using a forged driver's and traffic license, the Police Directorate announced.
It is alleged that shortly after midnight, at the Božaj border crossing, upon entering Montenegro, officers of the Border Police Station checked BM, who presented the police officers with a passport issued by Albania, and who was driving an Audi A6 Avant with Italian license plates.
"While conducting border checks, BM provided police officers with a driver's license issued by Italy and a registration certificate also issued by Italy for the vehicle in question, the authenticity and correctness of which were doubted by police officers on the front line of border checks," the statement said.
It is added that for this reason, in cooperation with FRONTEX officers, a detailed control was carried out at the second line of border checks.
"On that occasion, discrepancies were also observed in relation to the original driver's license and the original traffic license, and it was determined that they were forgeries," the police said.
The state prosecutor at the Basic State Prosecutor's Office in Podgorica was reportedly informed about the event, and she ordered that information be collected from the polling station for the record.
"After collecting information, the acting prosecutor was informed of the above, after which she ordered the arrest of BM on suspicion that he committed the criminal offense of forging a document," the police statement said.
It is stated that BM was arrested and that forged documents – a driver's license and a traffic license – were seized from him.
It is added that a vehicle was also seized from BM.
"The suspect BM will be brought before the competent state prosecutor, along with a criminal complaint," the police statement said.
